Remembering

I took this photo way back in 2010, when Cole was about 5 months old*. For some reason he hated socks, which I wear pretty much all the time in the house. For a while there he would always attack my feet and try to pull off the socks. Also, if he found any of my socks just laying around, they ended up chewed to pieces.

Oddly he only hated my socks -- no one else's seemed to bother him. It might have been because I wear fuzzy socks most of the time, I'm not sure. Anyway, it took us a couple months (and about twenty pairs of my socks) to gently train him out of the habit.

This morning it was cool enough to chill my feet as soon as I got out of bed. As I pulled on my socks for the first time since Cole died I thought of him when he was a puppy. It filled a little of the huge hole he left behind in my heart.

That's all, but that's enough for now.

*Nope. Did the math over; he was a year and a half. I can't count. :)

It's funny the things that remind of us of our kids. I can't help thinking that Cole was saving you from those socks. They do look a bit menacing.
