No Story Friday

Thanks to taxes I did not get a story written this week, but to give you a break from the tedious April Fool's jokes and pranks I thought I'd do some updates on my other creative endeavors. In typical me fashion I forgot to post any stats or pics on the textile art I accomplished in February, but I didn't finish anything for the entire month, so there wouldn't have been anything to report. :) For March my big accomplishment was completing my koi quilt project. In pursuit of being a zero waste quilter I also made a storage bag for the quilt out of the leftover fabric scraps before I sent the lot to Kat. For the rest of the month I worked on smaller practice pieces in preparation for my next quilt, which will be made from recycled linen and slow stitched with perle cotton threads. This piece I made from some old cotton I recycled from a lumpy cutter piece. Slow stitch practice is a constant exercise for me, not only to keep my fingers limber but also to keep m...

No Story Today

Catching up on work and housework after my bad reaction to the booster shot has eaten up another week. We're having our master bathroom shower renovated next week, and we had to make a trip into the city to pick out tile (I'll post photos of before and after so you can see what we had done.) Then Katherine's last pet rat passed away (he had a very good life, trust me; he was almost three years old), so I had to have a little funeral and then disassemble the cage, clean up and dispose of the rat-related stuff. As a result I've had no time for fun writing, but hopefully I'll get back on track next week. Sorry, guys.

Project Mini-Series

I've been writing too much about death lately. That's one of the things that happens to me when I write without a plan, I tend to get fixated and keep writing about the same thing. Anyway, to solve this problem I decided to add an extra challenge to my short story project for February: I'm only going to write love stories this month, hopefully with no death in them. Should be a nice way to honor Valentine's Day, too. :) Image credit: ylanite from Pixabay.

So Far

So far for my short story project I've written and posted a new story every Friday since October 8th, for a grand total of sixteen (I'm pretty sure I haven't missed a week so far, too.) Obviously I haven't run out of ideas, and it's still fun for me. I think it's good writing practice, too. I thought since I've made it through three months of this I'd take a look at the project. Since my stories are usually written in one to three days, and edited only once or twice, there are bound to be flaws with them. I'd like to rewrite a few for that and other various reasons. The one I wrote the fastest was this week's story Oh, Hell , which is probably because it's a satire. The most abstract was Respite , which was also my first attempt at something like that. The most difficult to write was Peace as it really illustrates my feelings about the holidays, and I included some details from my own life. I'd like to do more experimental fi...

Project Progress

Since October 8th I've been writing a new short story every week as part of a (hopefully) year-long writing challenge for myself. So far they're all pretty much romances, with a few SF thrown in. I don't think I've missed a week so far. The most difficult part of the challenge is finding the time to actually write the stories. It was probably not a great idea to start this project during the holidays, when I have the least amount of spare time, with the puppies and my full-time writing job just adding to the time crunch. I do a lot of the writing at night right before I go to bed. I never seem to run out of story ideas, but a few of them want to be novels, so I have to step on their glittery ambitious notions to control the length. Paths and The Return definitely still want to be longer, and may eventually become so if I ever find the time to work on them again. I'm enjoying the project, but I'm also a little frustrated by the time constraints. I wa...
