Love You, Dad

To celebrate my dad's birthday and make a donation in honor of him and his love of animals, we visited our local no-kill cat shelter last week. To see the kitties we visited, check out my album of pics here.

Sheltering

Last week we stopped by our local no-kill cat shelter with our daughter to make a donation and to visit with the kitties. She attracts all animals and volunteers at a shelter at home, so this was fun for her. I have a hard time not falling in love, as I did with this delicate little princess. She wouldn't hold still for a photo for long but she has sky blue eyes. Just like they do my girl, the cats all love my guy. He won't admit it but he loves visiting the shelter, too. There was one cat named Pepper who was not adoptable, likely for medical reasons, who stayed beside me the whole time I was in her room. She looked pretty banged up and had lost half of her tail. That always breaks my heart, but it's also the reason we go to visit regularly. Some of the kitties have to stay at the shelter as their forever home, and they need as much attention and affection as they can get while they live out their best lives there. If you are able to help out the n...

Shelter Me

Last week my guy and I visited to the local no-kill cat shelter to make a donation and visit with the kitties. This has become an annual tradition for us, and one of the few bright spots of our holidays this year. To see more pics, check out my album here. We also go to honor the memory of our cats Jeri and Jak, whom we lost to old age many years ago. The cats at this shelter are abandoned pets, strays or feral, and many are in rough shape. They are treated by a vet, looked after by staff and (if appropriate) made available for adoption. The shelter just built a new building which has become a separate facility for elderly cats so they can live comfortably. It's very humbling to go and sit with the kitties. Many are friendly and will come up to me for a head scratch, even some that are recovering from injuries and/or neglect. Others want nothing to do with us and run. On our visits we offer attention, and money, but it's the folks who run and staff the shel...

Kitties!

To honor a friend who just lost her cat my guy and I paid a visit to our local no-kill cat shelter last week to make a donation. We stayed to visit with the kitties and take some pics of them. To see these beauties, check out my album here.

Junk Therapy

One day back in April I had a memory blip that left me a little upset; I thought I'd accidentally thrown away my medic alert cuff and a vintage bracelet I thrifted and really like. I made myself dig through the garbage can, all the while kicking myself for being so careless. I actually didn't throw them away; I finally discovered the missing items next to my laptop in the sewing room. I had absolutely no idea when I put them there, and still don't. That upset me even more. To just heap more depression atop my worries, this was also the same day I had to say goodbye to our last living cat Jericho some years ago after losing his brother Jak a few months before then. It's part of ageing, and being a pet owner, but I got very depressed, so I decided I needed some junk therapy. I asked my guy to take me to The Old Packing House in Umatilla, my favorite place to find vintage fabrics, household items, and art pieces like these two painted wooden cats ($5.00 each) tha...

Visiting the Kitties

Back in December we made a visit to our local no-kill cat shelter to make a holiday donation and visit with the kitties. To see the pics I took of the lovely cats, check out my album here .

A Day at the Cat Shelter

While Kat was visiting last month we stopped by our local no-kill cat shelter to make a donation and visit with the kitties. Happily there aren't as many cats at the shelter as in years past; I'll guess they've had many adoptions since the beginning of the pandemic. One beat-up little gray cat fell in love with my Kat. I was also very happy to see several people come in while we were visiting with donations of food and supplies for the shelter. I asked the lady running the place if she could use some quilts, and she was very happy about the chance to get some fresh bedding for the kitties, so now I have to get together some quilts to donate. I spent a happy half-hour petting this little guy, who fell in love with me. Although we are maxed out on pets I'll go back soon to visit him again.
