Switching Over

We had a transformer blow near my house last night, and my already ageing desktop computer did not appreciate the sudden power loss. This is why I say backup religiously; I didn't lose anything but three sentences of the WIP I was working on at the time. But my tower was very slow to come back on and the problems I was having with it got worse. Weirdly I had gone to Office Depot earlier that day to buy a tower because it was on sale for $150.00 off; I was planning to replace the old one next week. So that worked out nicely (and a bit eerily. Could I be psychic? Ha.) Anway, say hello to the new desktop. :)

Eh, Craftsy Returns

I'm not posting this on the day I was notified, but it seems Craftsy is back in operation . They've offered me a year of access to their 1500+ online classes for the low low price of $2.49, too. Alas, I'm not biting. Other than the fact that I'm not interested in taking any online classes, how all this played out disturbs me. If there is by chance some skill I need to acquire, I can find plenty of free blog and YouTube tutorials to teach me whatever I need to learn. I suggest you do the same. :)

Back It Up

The other night I was working late on a particularly difficult scene, and as is now my habit I stopped about an hour in to back up three times (once to my hard drive, once to Dropbox, and once to a memory stick.) It annoyed me to have to do that, as I was just starting to get the scene to work. I even thought "Why am I backing up during writing sessions when I can do it later?" The universe heard me, because five minutes later everything suddenly died, and I was left sitting in complete darkness. I sat and waited for the power to come back on so I could recover my files. But the power didn't come back on, so eventually I had to go to bed. We didn't get service restored for another five hours, as it turns out. When I went to reboot my computer, which is getting a bit old now, I thought of what might happen if the outtage had fried it. I have a backup laptop for work, but I haven't been copying my files to it since last summer. All I had of the last three we...
