Springtime on the Farm

The farm where we buy produce from local growers is open to the public again, so we made a trip over there yesterday to pick up a bag of fresh corn and some greens.

My first thought when I spied this tomato plant was "Do I look like that in the morning?" (Minus the tomatoes, probably.)

Watermelon season has begun. With a vengeance.

It always awes me a little to see the farm's harvest in person. It takes me two or three days to use up just one of our homegrown cucumbers. Picking them also acquainted me with how sticky and unpleasant cucumber plants can be.

What would you do with a truck filled with them? Ha.

That poor tomato plant needs a haircut.

I love cucumbers. For a snack, I'll slice up one large or several small cukes, add salt and a few dashes of rice wine vinegar. Any vinegar will do but I like the seasoned ones. If I can save it for a few hours the slices will soak up the vinegar, but I've never lasted that long. LOL!

I too love cucumbers! Sliced, quartered, squoze, in a dish with a little onion and garlic and some sour cream, on salads, pickled! ;) or fresh off the vine. Unfortunately, I spent a little time in the ER and am now on the couch so I think my garden will not get planted this year :(

Cucumbers are an easy side dish for almost anything I make. I slice them up and the family puts salad dressing on them. My mom used to make a cucumber and onion salad that had vinegar in it, but it was sweet, so I expect it had a lot of sugar, too.

Love Means This

Invested in a couple of hand-dyed bundles from one of my favorite fabric artists. This one said "Make me into something for Valentine's Day." So I went for a quilted and embellished tote. I kept thinking about what love means to me as I worked on it. Here's the finished tote. Although I was tempted to embellish with beads and pins, I got sick and only felt well enough to do a little stitching every night. As I worked I thought about how often love seems disappointing to us, especially when it fails to live up to our expectations. But now that I've experienced love in many forms, I can say that it's made me a better person than I might have been without it. Love is a precious thing, and should be appreciated in all its forms. Wild Ride
