Next Week

I see the CDC is now encouraging vaccinated people to go maskless and return to (relatively) normal life, which I find more troubling than relieving. I've also lost a lot of faith in the CDC over the last year, so my doubts mostly come from that. I'm still listening to Dr. Fauci over anyone else because he makes the most sense to me.

Next week will be the three-week, post 2nd-shot for all of us, so we've been talking about having a meal inside a restaurant. We haven't done that since March of last year, and Kat is leaving for her new job soon, so it would be nice.

I am so far behind here! Honestly, our area has been mostly maskless for months now. Especially outside where there's a thing called fresh air. I personally am glad to be getting back to some form of normalcy.

Yesterday when we went to the restaurant almost everyone except us and the employees were maskless, but like your area the locals here haven't been wearing them much. I'm wearing a vaccinated pin on my shirt to annoy them. :)

Why does that pin not surprise me? The employees in the restaurants are still wearing them and at the hospital, you're required to as are the employees, but pretty much everywhere else here? Not really. I've never worn one outside. I don't wear it in the car. But you've had much more relaxed mandates than we have too and I think here, people are just tried of it all and ready to start living again.

MA is opening up this weekend and honestly, I'm conflicted. I read an article that the positivity rate is way way down, but that's an aggregate number. If you slice the data for vaccinated vs unvaccinated, the unvaccinated positivity rate/hospitalizations/deaths are as bad as they were at the height of the pandemic.

We're all fully vaccinated in the family and we were able to have a family gathering for the first time in almost a year and a half last weekend. It was a joy to be able to hug one another. But I'll still be using masks when I'm in situations where there are a lot of people around me. Not because I feel like I'm at any particular risk for covid, but because it was really nice not having a cold or the flu last year.

Love Means This

Invested in a couple of hand-dyed bundles from one of my favorite fabric artists. This one said "Make me into something for Valentine's Day." So I went for a quilted and embellished tote. I kept thinking about what love means to me as I worked on it. Here's the finished tote. Although I was tempted to embellish with beads and pins, I got sick and only felt well enough to do a little stitching every night. Other Stashes

Along with clearing out the spare bedroom and tidying my office and our guest bedroom, I decided to reorganize some of my stashes. This is all the yarn I have on hand, sorted by color. It looks like a lot, but lately I've been using up a minimum of half a bin every month, so this is approximately a year's supply. All of my solid color cotton perle thread. I go through a lot of this every year, too. I need a container in which I can fit all of it together, but I haven't found the right one yet. I won't show you all of my fabric -- I'm still reorganizing this stash -- but I went through everything and donated two bins of fabric I won't need to the local quilter's guild.

Store Closing Haul

The mega Books-A-Million store over in Sanford is closing, and offered an extra 20% off on their current stock -- all sales final -- so I went over to do some shopping. Safely but sadly there was no one in the store but me the entire time I was there. The Holly Jackson novel is for Katherine, the Halloween board book is for Oliver, and the copy of Garden Spells is to keep on hand because I give that book to everyone. The rest of the books are for me. I love Anne Cleeves, and the Galbraith novel sounded interesting (the first couple weren't, but I'm willing to take another chance.) The Escape Room is by a new-to-me author, plus it was cheap. The GreenCraft mag is just a guilty pleasure. Hopefully the smaller BAM nearer to me won't close. I don't buy many books from brick-and-mortar stores these days, but that's really the last one within reasonable driving distance.
