I washed everything from my thrifted fabric haul, and with one exception it all came out lovely and bright.
The one exception: the fringed stripey drapery fabric; it needed dry cleaning to preserve the flatness of the thread fringing. I knew this and threw it in the washer anyway; almost everything I make for the house has to survive laundering at home. I actually like it better now that it's fluffy. I might use it for pillows instead of drapes.
One reminder about red fabrics of any kind: no matter how old they are, they can bleed. Always wash separately, and use a color grabber cloth until no more red or pink shows on the grabber. Then they're usually safe to wash with other colors.
