Tomato Soup Bag

Last month I challenged myself to use all the fabrics that came in one of my thrifted quilt kits to make a project. This is harder than you think, as I like to edit out fabrics I don't care for. I chose this kit with a red, pink, white and black theme because I like Campbell's tomato soup, and I didn't really hate any of the fabrics.

Once I ironed everything I saw that I had a lot of fabric to work with, so I decided to make a big project bag.

I pieced two big patchwork block panels for the front and back of the bag, and used my scraps to make large pockets for each side. The long binding strips and the solid black is what I used for the handles.

Here's the finished tote.

I did run out of fabric to use for the lining, so I borrowed this black and white floral print from another thrifted pile.

The pockets make it a little different, and they're roomy enough to hold whatever tools and notions I need for any particular project.
