After watching a few more tutorial videos and making a second practice piece, I decided to use the largest loom in my set to knit a wrap, scarf, or maybe a little throw (we'll see how long my yarn supply lasts) out of that pretty Mandala multicolor I used to make a wrap last year. I mainly did this because I still have two big skeins of it. That I can use the looms to knit flat pieces as well as tubes is cool.
I've learned that things turn out better using two strands of worsted weight yarn on these looms (or one strand of bulky weight), and with two in the same colorway but different shade starts the resulting knit turns out really pretty.
I also noticed a knitter on YouTube threaded her yarn through a finger-long piece of plastic drinking straw, which she used to keep her tension even and hold while wrapping the loom. This really helped me a lot with both.
