Oliver's Birthday Quilt Part 3

Now that I've cut up the strip sets for Oliver's birthday quilt, I recombine and sew the various units back together:

As with pairing the strips I try to use different colors and values when I match them for this particular step, and make a big stack to sew all at once:

I do the same chain piecing as I did with the strip pairs:

And because I want to show you the real process (warts and all), at this point I discovered I'm one-eighth of an inch off my block sizes. Probably happened while I was piecing the strips:

Fortunately an eighth of an inch is fixable, so I'll compensate when I piece those blocks. :) Onward!

I've done the same thing, been off 'just this much' when I've pieced things. It's a relatively easy fix, all things considered.

Do you lay the blocks out on the bed first to see the pattern? I usually do though sometimes, I don't need to. Curious minds...
