Time to Remodel

Now that our nephew will be moving in and living upstairs in our guest room, I need to make another guest room. At the moment this is the other room I have, a back bedroom which mostly serves as a catch-all for our old/unwanted furniture, big creative projects, seasonal decor we aren't using, etc.

I'm going to completely empty it out, paint the walls a very light green and the trim white, put in a new bed (the one you see here is 20 years old and uncomfortable) and nightstand, and using my vintage white desk and a white dresser my favorite person left behind.

This room from IKEA is my favorite of their showcased bedrooms, and close to what I hope to do. There won't be any black polka dots on a white wall, or this kind of furniture (I want a daybed so the room will serve for single or couple guests), but I want to have the same kind of ambience, which will fit the general look of the rest of our home, too.

While I'm gathering ideas and pricing day beds I'll be cleaning out and emptying the room, which should take a month.

I painted two of my bedrooms a soft sage green. It's very relaxing.

I love to redecorate. It gives me a chance to reuse old items in new places.

My guy kindly bought me my favorite Chinese take out the other night, and my fortune cookie offered up an interesting story starter: This sounds sweet, right? Many of my favorite sellers on Etsy are leaving due to the whole "free shipping" coercion debacle, which has also soured me on the site. T-minus Day

This was our little Thanksgiving dinner last year, when it was just the three of us. Time keeps whittling down my favorite holiday; this year it will be just me and my guy, and we likely won't even have a turkey.* That will be a first in 35 years. I feel about Thanksgiving the way other people do about Christmas, and while it's a lot of work it's my favorite holiday. Of all the Thanksgivings I've had in the past sixty years, only three were truly terrible: one when I was a kid that I don't talk about (#1 most miserable); the time I roasted two turkeys together and hosted fifteen people whom I cooked for and served with zero help (the largest and #2 most miserable); and the one I spent in basic training (the #3 most miserable.)
