Lightning Strikes

A couple of years ago I rejoined two pieces of an old wool crazy quilt and added a bit to it to make a rectangle, but never did anything more with the piece. It's pretty fragile, so I couldn't use it in anything but a display-type project. In the end I left it in my sewing room in case I had any sudden inspiration.

I was in between projects, and not really wanting to work on anything big when inspiration finally struck. Why not use up some leftover bits of embroidery thread to practice embroidery on the piece? While I was doing that I finally knew how I could use the piece.

Here it is with the embroidery finished and all the vintage brooches I have attached. Folded over it will keep the pins dry and dust-free, and when I want a brooch to use for a tote or art quilt I can just unfolded it to see what I have on hand.
