Done and Done and Gone

I finished up the slow-stitched beach bag, which turned out neat, I think.

More than anything it was a relaxing project, and gave me time to think about lots of stuff.

I also finished this treat bag I made from my bargello experiment and filled it with snacks before mailing it off to my kid so she would get it in time for Halloween.

I'm writing this post on 10/22, but it will publish on the first day of NaNoWriMo. With the puppies, my work schedule and some other things I need to deal with it's probably going to be very tough to swing. I may change my mind, too (again). Anyway, I'll update this post if I decide to participate, but right now it looks like a no for me.

The slow-stitch turned out beautiful! Truly.

I will not be doing NaNo this year. Hubs is getting his knee replaced January 3rd, I have three birthdays, Thanksgiving, Christmas and a dozen doctor appointments between now and then not to mention a few more tests for him so while I could probably find the time if I pushed it, my concentration wouldn't be there. Better I write when I can focus than try to push myself right now.

Thanks, I'm pretty happy with it.

I decided not to do NaNo this year, either. I'm feeling a bit jaded about the way it's being commercialized, and I'd rather not be distracted from work writing. I'd like to finish one more novel before the end of the year. Also, with the short story project I feel like I already have plenty to write just for fun.

Old Loves & Such

My guy kindly bought me my favorite Chinese take out the other night, and my fortune cookie offered up an interesting story starter: This sounds sweet, right? Many of my favorite sellers on Etsy are leaving due to the whole "free shipping" coercion debacle, which has also soured me on the site. Love Means This

Invested in a couple of hand-dyed bundles from one of my favorite fabric artists. This one said "Make me into something for Valentine's Day." So I went for a quilted and embellished tote. I kept thinking about what love means to me as I worked on it. Here's the finished tote. Although I was tempted to embellish with beads and pins, I got sick and only felt well enough to do a little stitching every night. As I worked I thought about how often love seems disappointing to us, especially when it fails to live up to our expectations. But now that I've experienced love in many forms, I can say that it's made me a better person than I might have been without it. Love is a precious thing, and should be appreciated in all its forms. I am very grateful for the love of my guy, my child and my friends who have stuck with me all these years. Progress

My guy is back home safe, sound and exhausted. I think he just realized he's over seventy now. :) I didn't finish a sewing project while he was gone, but I did make some progress on the beach bag. I've tacked down all the fabric elements on top of the old backing fabric I quilted. Time to break out the embroidery thread box and have some fun.
