Major Moth

Saw this big girl hanging on the window screen right before a storm hit:

She's roughly about the size of my hand. Kat later identified her as a polyphemus moth.

We've seen a few of these before in our yard, but it's still a thrill to get up close to such a big bug.

Lucky you! I had a cercropia moth caterpillar in one of my birch trees this year. I almost brought it in (do raise monarchs and am raising my first black swallowtail) but I opted not to. I wish I had now because I lost track of it in the tree. The caterpillar was as round and longer than my thumb and my thumbs are really long!
