Look Back

While I'm off tending to my spiritual side, let me show you how much I got done last month.

I experimented quite a bit in April, first by making a dishcloth out of cotton yarn to test whether or not I agreed with the opinions of some influencers about the fiber (end result: I don't agree, what a shock! Ha.)

I also made a dog bowl mat for my pups out of cotton yarn, just to be sure I liked it.

I tested out a skein of sport weight silk yarn by making a granny square out of it, which I may incorporate into my calendar project.

Speaking of that, I finished the April tote for my quilting calendar project, which is a fusion of crochet and quilting. The cutter quilt pieces I've been saving forever for the right project (and I'm so glad I did) and the yarn I used to crochet the tote tops and handles is a worsted art yarn I thrifted last year.

While investigating a mystery ball for the crochet blog I turned the yarn into a giant granny square.

I made a scarf while trying a crocheted afghan pattern for the first time.

I crocheted a little pocket holder out of silk yarn for the hand cream I carry in my purse.

To test how sport weight silk yarn behaves in the round I made a little mug rug for my office desk, and finished off the cake with another granny square.

I freehanded a little no-pattern clutch for my art supplies so I can take them with me on road trips this summer.

I made a miniature version of 1dogwoof's Classic Crochet Bunny.

I made a little basket and three pompoms out of a single skein of Red Heart Super Saver Pink Camo yarn.

I finished my first big work project of the year.

I repaired a broken vintage bracelet.

I made a second bracelet out of beads I found while spring cleaning.

I made a loaf cat out of Dollar Tree chenille yarn.

I crocheted another big granny square while testing Red Heart Crafties yarn.

I also crocheted a very weird-looking mini teddy bear out of Just Yarn Teddy, which is one of the worst yarns I've ever tried.

I crocheted a wrap so I could review some Chinese gradient yarn a friend sent me.

I finished spring cleaning with the final task of getting my yarn stash out of bins and into bookshelves and hanging organizers in our front room (it still needs some color sorting, but it's all in one spot now.)

I did not reach my goal of quilting something every week, as the social media upset and my arthritis conspired against me. I'll try again in May. Wish me luck. :)

Old Loves & Such

My guy kindly bought me my favorite Chinese take out the other night, and my fortune cookie offered up an interesting story starter: This sounds sweet, right? Only the first thing I thought of was an old love coming back from the dead . . . . must be October. In other lovely news, my favorite hand-dyed thread artist, Lorraine from Colour Complements , is moving her business from Etsy to her own web site. Many of my favorite sellers on Etsy are leaving due to the whole "free shipping" coercion debacle, which has also soured me on the site. To show support I did a little shopping at Lorraine's web site and got in these: I love her threads and trims; you simply can't buy anything like them anywhere. Her work makes my specialty thread box look like a treasure chest: At night I'm spending just as hour working on quilting the scrap project runner, and I'm making slow progress: I'll keep quilting the runner while I try to decide on a design for t...

Wild Ride

Along with the Gods: The Two Worlds is an epic, dazzling film that hurls you into the Korean version of the afterlife while showcasing some of the most impressive special effects I've ever seen in any movie. The story begins with the death of firefighter Kim Ja-Hong (Cha Tae-hyun) who jumps out of a burning building with a child in his arms. The kid lives, but he dies at the scene. Two strangers inform him that he has passed away right on schedule, and toss him into a vortex that takes him to the world of the afterlife, where he meets his three guardians: Gang-rim (Ha Jung-woo), Haewonmak (Ju Ji-hoon) and Lee Deok-choon (Kim Hyang-gi). At the gates of the afterlife Ja-Hong learns that he is considered a paragon (an exemplary person who lived a noble and self-sacrificing life) and is eligible to be reincarnated -- but there's a catch. First he has 49 days to make it through seven hells in which he will be judged on his sins. His three guardians will help and defend...

Progress

My guy is back home safe, sound and exhausted. I think he just realized he's over seventy now. :) I didn't finish a sewing project while he was gone, but I did make some progress on the beach bag. I've tacked down all the fabric elements on top of the old backing fabric I quilted. Time to break out the embroidery thread box and have some fun.
