Since the Chinese drama The First Frost has been getting a lot of attention I decided to watch a couple of episodes. Anything that popular generally isn't my cup of tea, and while I've kept watching, I'm at the point now where I'm wondering if I should stop.
First and foremost, it's a very depressing (and at times upsetting) series dealing with issues of assault, envy, unwanted children and manipulative family members (and possibly worse.) The two leads are very attractive actors, but their second chance at love story is confusing and too coyly presented to follow easily. I felt like I was being manipulated with every episode.
I'm not sure if I will keep watching it, so I'm posting this as a word of warning for those who can be triggered by the content: probably not for you.
Added later: I did finish watching it out of half-hearted curiosity about the female lead's backstory. It's worse than I anticipated, and I fast-forwarded through most of that. On the upside the romance does improve toward the end, and my sympathy went more toward the male lead than the female. Available on Netflix.
