The last time I went to JoAnn fat quarters were $2.99 each, which seems a little pricey to me (works out to $12.00 a yard.) These FQs are usually thin, cheap cotton fabric that looks a bit sketchy, honestly. Then I saw on some holiday decor YouTube videos that crafters are buying fabric FQs from Dollar Tree for $1.25.
For a while now I have been regularly shopping at Dollar Tree to save money on things like body wash, foaming hand soap, toothbrushes etc. So the last time I went I searched the craft aisle, and sure enough, there was one little box on a bottom shelf with rolled fat quarters. There wasn't much to choose from, and the solids were on the neon side, so I picked four prints that I thought might be cute.
This is definitely not high-quality fabric -- the cotton feels and looks thin -- yet weirdly that's pretty close to what JoAnn sells for $2.99.
I thought this kitten print was really cute. Yes, I am becoming the old lady who wants cute, it seems.
This nautical print was a bit thicker and of better quality, so there seems to be a range to these FQs.
My favorite is the dog bone print. Anyway, if you need a quarter yard of fabric, and you don't mind limited options, Dollar Tree might be the place to go first.
