And Now Izzy

Looks like the first storm of the season will arrive tonight (I'm actually writing this post on Thursday, so if that changes I'll correct or delete this. which you'll never know unless I don't. Blogging paradox!) Whoever names these hurricanes needs to be locked in a room and forced to recite tongue-twisters for a week as punishment for this almost unpronounceable tag. Eee-sah-eee-ahs? Hell with it. I'm calling it Izzy.

We're ready as ever, and plan to have Oliver and his parents come and stay with us if Izzy arrives with 50mph or higher winds.

If we are knocked offline by the storm the blog will roll on; I've already worked up and pre-scheduled posts to publish daily through the first week of September. Writing and taking pictures for the blog has helped me work through a lot of my issues this summer, plus it gives me something positive to focus on every day.

Friday update:

On the plus side, as of Friday morning it looks like the storm has jogged a little more east; on the downside it will probably strengthen over the next 24-48 hours. If the forecast remains true then the outer wind bands should just brush us.

We're on the left/clean side of the storm, so that's also good. The dirty side, aka the upper right front quadrant, is where you do not want to be when a hurricane strikes. Remember all the damage we had from Irma? That is usually what happens when you're on the dirty side.

Saturday update:

Looks like the rain and winds (28 mph estimated) will arrive here at 4:00 pm tomorrow. It may be worse if the storm jogs more to the west, but I think we'll be okay.

Sunday update:

Woke up this morning to a beautiful day with absolutely clear skies, which as you can see from this projected radar screen shot will go bye-bye a little after noon today.

Hurricane Izzy got some of its stuffing knocked out between the islands and Florida, and has been downgraded to a tropical storm. We'll still have some wind and rain, but nothing like we were expecting.

And that, my pals, is how we track a storm during hurricane season. :)

I did wonder how you were fairing, but I see it's going to be a bad storm which is still not good, but better than it could be. We are getting poured on today but nothing like some of the storms that have rolled through this summer. There are a lot of places though under flood watch again.

Love Means This

Invested in a couple of hand-dyed bundles from one of my favorite fabric artists. This one said "Make me into something for Valentine's Day." So I went for a quilted and embellished tote. I kept thinking about what love means to me as I worked on it. Here's the finished tote. Although I was tempted to embellish with beads and pins, I got sick and only felt well enough to do a little stitching every night. As I worked I thought about how often love seems disappointing to us, especially when it fails to live up to our expectations. But now that I've experienced love in many forms, I can say that it's made me a better person than I might have been without it. Love is a precious thing, and should be appreciated in all its forms. Progress

My guy is back home safe, sound and exhausted. I think he just realized he's over seventy now. :) I didn't finish a sewing project while he was gone, but I did make some progress on the beach bag. I've tacked down all the fabric elements on top of the old backing fabric I quilted. Time to break out the embroidery thread box and have some fun.
