Old Loves

Sometimes I will find beautiful things and squirrel them away for a rainy day. Here are two examples: a small swatch of bronze burnout silk velvet from a vintage fancy fabric bundle, and a big pile of hand-dyed pure silk ribbons from an Etsy shop that closed. I knew both would be perfect for the crazy quilt I wanted to make someday, and now someday is here.

I chose the velvet to be the center of block three this month, and I'm going to embellish the negative space with copper or gold holographic Sulky (still deciding). The effect should look like this:

I'm getting a bit braver with silk ribbon embroidery, so I hope to make a dent in that heap of loveliness, too.

The one patch with the blue stripe that doesn't quite fit in with the others is a deliberate choice, too -- stay tuned to see what I do with it.
