My 22 lb. lot of thrifted yarn arrived, and it's in great condition with only a spot of soiling on one skein and no smell.
Here's everything unpacked. The colors are exactly what I'd hoped to use for my amigurumi projects. 22 lbs. of worsted yarn equals about 23,000 yards -- and while most of this is worsted, there are about a dozen balls of crochet thread. So many 25K to 26K yards.
The original owner must have spent a lot of time winding skeins into balls. A lot of skeins, too -- the yellow yarn ball is as big as my head. That will save me a lot of time, as I prefer to work with balls instead of skeins, too.
There may also be some mysteries inside the balls. This one had something plastic poking out of it, so of course I had to unwind it.
I found a different shade of yarn inside the outer layer.
I think the darker yarn was reclaimed; it had a lot of tie-ups.
The plastic object was marked Boye, so then I knew what it was -- a yarn bobbin. :)
I bought this lot for $11.99, and while there are no labels or maker markers on the yarn, I'm comfortable pricing it at $3.00 a pound (which is super cheap, even for vintage yarn), or $66.00 total. Savings: $54.01
