Thread Secret

If you use Gutermann thread, here's a secret about some of their spools you might not know.

If you twist the bottom thread catcher part counter-clockwise, you can remove it without breaking or messing up the spool.

This is what the bottom looks like.

Tuck a needle on the outside grove of the bottom, and when you replace it the spool becomes a needle case.

I did. I don't remember why I know that though. When I'm sewing and I need to quit for a time and I've still got that color in my needle, I poke the needle through the little slot on that bottom piece and lay the thread sideways on top of my folded piece I'm working on. That keeps my needles from getting lost and I'm not keeping them poked in the fabric. There's been a couple times I caught the needles on something and actually tore the fabric thanks to my clumsiness.
